My dog has a harsh cough and gags after boarding. What can I give him?

Hi there, I put my dog in boarding last week and he has now developed a harsh cough. The mentioned kennel cough was going around when I picked him up. He is eating and drinking but when he coughs he throws up. Nothing comes up. I'm just wondering if I can give him anything to ease the gauging. Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

I would not recommend giving him anything over the counter for the cough as it's probably not going to help much and human medications are generally not safe for dogs. if the cough becomes severe he will need antibiotic and strong anti coughing meds, if that happens take him to the vet in order to get the medications, otherwise the condition should resolve within a couple weeks without treatment.
