My cat has stress cystitis. Will renal food prevent it from returning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 years and 6 months old | 19 lbs

My cat has stress cystitis with no crystals. He was on royal canin so wet food but he hated it. Recent blood work showed his creatinine level has risen so now he's on renal support food. He also started Prozac for anxiety and has a feliway diffuser. Does so food control cystitis and will he be okay going off that to renal food now? I don't want that cystitis to come back. He likes the kidney food by the way. Thanks.

Renal food should not promote crystal formation and he should do well on this especially the wet version. Be sure to keep with the feliway diffuser and a calming supplement such as kalm aid may also help
