Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 12 years old | 20 lbs
My Shih-tzu is having trouble breathing? I have a 12 year old Shih-Tzu. She has been having trouble breathing, its quick breaths, and panting, and it sounds like she snorts. At least 3 veterinarians have seen her and we have spent over $2,000.00 dollars. And nobody can figure out what is wrong with her, they checked her heart for heart failure, and heart worms and her heart is fine. They checked her lungs and she's fine, she does not have asthma.

Poor Estrellita. It sounds like her issue may be in her upper airway. Sometimes airway diseases are hard to diagnose with standard radiographs. It may be worth considering having an MRI or CT scan done to help determine if there are any masses in her upper airway (nasal passage, larynx, trachea). If there is a mass there, then that is not a good prognosis for her unfortunately. This is a tough spot to be in. It may be worth considering steroids, antibiotics, and pain medication to help stabilize her somewhat. If her quality of life is too poor, then humane euthanasia may be considered. Poor girl. I wish you all the best in the next few days and making a decision concerning Estrellita's care moving forward. Take care.
