My cat is limping but acting normal. What can I do before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 10 lbs

Our cat has a slight limp, his right front paw is bothering him & we don't know why. He is going to the vet at the end of this week, but what can we do in the mean time to help him? He is favoring the paw but plays and is generally acting pretty normal.

Poor Kirk! I would try to keep him relatively contained and avoid letting him jump or play a lot. If he will let you look at his paw you can try to check the nails and foot pads for an injury but only if you can do its safely without getting scratched or bitten! Do not give him any medications without your vet prescribing them as cats are very sensitive to medications and do not tolerate human meds at all.
