Why is my dog breaking out with red dots on her belly and body?

My dog is breaking out with little red dots under her belly, then recently her sides and back,

I'm sorry to hear your dog is suffering from skin issues. Skin sores/lesions can have a variety of causes, such as parasites (fleas or mites), an infection (bacterial or fungal), allergies, or be a sign of an underlying condition. I would recommend she be seen by her regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause of her skin issues and start any treatment (antibiotics, anti-itch medications) that may be necessary.

    It is very possible it is related. Unfortunately, skin issues can be a large number of things, which is why a vet visit in person is best. Your vet can take a sample of the flaky skin for testing if needed to check for issues like bacterial, fungal or yeast infections. Treating for parasites can also help reduce skin irritation if they are the cause. In older dogs, metabolic changes may also cause skin and coat changes. Finally, allergies to food or the environment can also cause skin symptoms like this, usually concentrated on the belly and back. A food trial with your vet to rule out ingredients that could be causing it, as well as starting on a medicated shampoo or oral antihistamine may help. Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry, and keeping Jojo from licking or chewing at it can help reduce irritation and secondary infection.

    Have Willow examined by your veterinarian. It could be local irritation or infection. Treatment may be topical, systemic or a combination depending on the diagnosis. If she is licking or chewing, place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent it until she sees the vet. An essential fatty acid supplement such as DermCaps or EicosaCaps can be added to the diet to promote healthy skin and coat.

    Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) or an anti-microbial shampoo to clean the are twice daily or bathe her for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!
