Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old
My 1 and a half year old pointer X collie has developed a bald patch on her back. Skin is very raw looking, red and almost looks like cuts. Has also urinated a few times in the house which isn't like her at all. Other than this is in great form, very happy and playful. She is dewormed and deflea'd regularly. Will be going to see a vet but I am worrying since noticing this and would be grateful if some advice please xx

Poor Minnie! Red and irritated skin could be a result of allergies, trauma (scratches from a bush, burns, etc.), ringworm, or mange. I'm glad to hear that you'll be taking Minnie to her vet. In the meantime, you can try using an antimicrobial shampoo in case her skin has developed a secondary bacterial infection (here is one example: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=27982 ). If she is overly itchy, you can put an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking and irritation of the skin. While it is not likely associated with her skin condition, Minnie may be urinating in the house due to a urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine, behavioral issues, or urinary incontinence. When she goes to the vet, Minnie will likely need to have a urinalysis to determine if infection or crystals are present. I hope that all goes well!
