Why is my unspayed dog's belly growing with discharge and no appetite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 3 months old | 45 lbs

My dogs belly has steadily been growing for the last two months. She now is starting to have some vaginal discharge and is pacing around the house. And she won't eat or drink anything the last 24 hours.

I'm sorry to hear Daisy isn't feeling well. I would be very concerned about the abnormalities you are seeing with Daisy's belly. The growth in size could be due to an infected uterus (pyometra) as she is not spayed, a growth in the abdomen or fluid pooling in the abdomen (blood or other). As she is acting I'll, I would take her to immediately be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause of her issues.
