My dog got into storage, now struggles to breathe and swallow.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | 30 lbs

My dog got into the storage, when I came home he is having a hard time inhaling but not exhaling. He's having difficulty swallowing almost like he's gulping hard, yet he is still able to eat & drink. I also have a 3yr old son that likes to hug him around the neck. I'm not sure if my puppy's discomfort is due to something in his throat, or if he's been choked? He seems scared & I'm extremely worried. I been up all night just to watch him & make sure he's OK. Please give me some insight on this.

I would be concerned that something is blocking Duke's airway making it difficult for him to breathe in. He could have sniffed in something toxic or abrasive that is now causing inflammation in the airways. I would recommend taking Duke in to be checked out by your vet first thing this morning. Your vet may recommend X-rays to assess the airways and/or sedation to be able to look thoroughly in to the mouth.
