My puppy missed dewormer. Is it safe to re-dose before vaccines?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 17 days old | 5.401 lbs

Hello sir, I have a Doberman Pinscher female puppy which is 49 days old. DHPPIL vaccination is due next week. Before vaccination Doctor asked me to deworm my puppy with Drontal Puppy Suspension as per her body weight. Her body weight is 2 kgs. 450 grams. I had to feed her 2.5ml of the medicine. But I could feed her much less than 2.5ml. Can I give her the same amount of medicine tomorrow to make sure that I have dewormed her correctly before vaccination ?

Hi, I would not repeat the dewormer dose as you do not want to overdose her on the dewormer. She should be dewormed again in 3 weeks to make sure you got the life cycle of all the parasites she may have. If she is not having diarrhea or weight loss she may not even have worms. There is not a need to deworm her before the vaccines, they will still work properly regardless of the worming. I would go to your vet for vaccines and bring a stool sample with you to see if they could check it for worms. Depending on what eggs they see, they might recommend a different dewormed like pyrantel or panacur (fenbendazole). Either way, i would not redose her because she is so small and it is easy to overdose them and make them sick. If your vet suggests something different, you can follow his or her instructions. Good luck, i hope this helps!
