Why is my dog still chewing his paws after I changed his food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | neutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

I have a min pin, male and he has started chewing on his paws front and back off and on, I was told it could be a food allergy so I switched him back to his old food and he is still doing it

I'm sorry to hear that Mister has been chewing on his feet. Dogs can chew on their feet for a variety of reasons, including allergies (food or something he is walking in), a skin infection (bacterial or fungal), skin mites, or anxiety (similar to a person who bites their nails when stressed). I would recommend Mister be seen by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his chewing behavior, have any necessary diagnostics done (allergy testing, skin scrapes, etc) and get started on a treatment plan to hopefully help resolve the issue.
