My dog has red eye discharge. Does she need a vet before boarding?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 14 years and 3 months old | 38 lbs

my dogs eye got very red, then seemed to clear. just a little bit ago though, it looked red and had thick discharge, now other eye may be getting red? I am supposed to board and travel tomorrow.......is this something a vet needs to look at first? serious? never had before...........she is 14

Yes, a vet should look at this before you drop her off for boarding. She may have an eye infection and that needs quick treatment to prevent it from getting worse. Also, there would be some concern from the boarding facility if your pet came in with eye discharge that had not been checked. They have to make sure she does not have something contagious to the other dogs that will be boarding there. They may refuse to admit her to the facility without a veterinarian's okay.
