My cat has a chest tumor. How do I know when to consider euthanasia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat was diagnosed with Carcinoma in chest, he has a mass that is malignant, he is only 8 years old. He does not appear to be in pain but sleeps all day, he is eating with the appetite stimulant and was given a steroid injection in Tuesday to contain the growth. Do you think he should be put down as soon as possible? My vet says they will continue to treat him as it goes along w steroid injections. I trust my vet this is all so sudden he was fine a few weeks ago and has never been sick.

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this with your cat. As long as your cat is eating and drinking and not losing weight I would continue palliative care. Once he starts to decline, like acting sick and not eating or drinking, then it may be time to consider euthanasia.
