Why is my 10-year-old cocker spaniel suddenly unable to stand up?

My cocker spaniel aged 10 is unable to stand up. Within 24 hours he has gone from a healthy dog running around to being unable to stand. My local vet has no idea. Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 39 lbs

Since your regular vet was not able to figure out what is going on with Finley you may want to consider asking for a referral to an internal medicine specialist. Finley needs to have X-rays and possibly blood work performed. I would be concerned that Finley may have an inflamed disc in his back that is putting pressure on his spinal cord causing pain and immobility. Typically dogs with a protruding disc like this go down quickly and need pain medication and anti-inflammatory drugs to help them recover. I hope you can find a vet that is able to help you and Finley.
