Is old parvo dirt still a risk to my dog after many years of exposure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 13 lbs

So we had a parvo cage in the dirt and my dog walked on it. We didn't clean it as we didn't know we had to clean it but it has been there for years and today we cleaned it with bleach and watch. Will my dog get parvo because we have walked on that specific dirt for years but he has not. Is it the same thing for us walking on that dirt and going inside and our dog walking in it?

If your dog has been fully vaccinated against parvo (completed a full puppy series of vaccines) then infection is very unlikely. If it has been years since the kennel had a parvo infected dog inside, it is unlikely the virus is still alive.
