Is my pet's injured toe healing well? What signs should I watch for?

Hello and thanks for using Boop by Petco. It is difficult to tell 100% from the picture, but there doesn't appear to be swelling or discharge from the area. It typically looks like this when the nail falls off. So I'd say it does look like it's healing OK. In my experience, most nails will regrow normally after an injury like this, but it may take quite some time, so just keep a close eye on it. If you do start to see pain, swelling, discharge or Sullivan starts limping, I would recommend taking him back to your vet.

Yes, it's pretty clear that Louie's right fourth toe is visible longer than his other toes. Normally, the third and fourth digits are pretty comparable in length. As you mentioned, yes, it's possible that this is a tendon injury, but other issues like bony or soft tissue masses, osteomyelitis, or other injuries are certainly possible. For now, I would carefully feel the "longer" toe to see if there is any swelling (soft or firm) relative to the other toes. If there's any asymmetry between the fourth toe and the others, then it's definitely worth having Louie examined by his vet, potentially with some x-rays of this foot. However, if it feels perfectly normal, he continues walking normally, and isn't showing any other signs of discomfort or sensitivity, then yes, it's perfectly reasonable to continue conservative management and monitoring at home. If it looks like it's healing fine, I wouldn't worry about any precautions when walking or bathing him. Just monitor it, keep it clean, but it should heal just fine if it keeps going the way it is.

You are right, suturing a pad wound like this is difficult. You’ve done a good job with her care. This is healing well. That is normal scar tissue and the wound does not look infected. There is no need to take her in Monday. Pads take a long time to heal so it may be another week or two before it’s fully healed. It's hard to see with all the hair, I assume I'm looking at the top of her paw and it's between two toes. This may not be a traumatic injury, it could be a place that she has licked and scratched because she had a small wound or an insect bite or other irritation between the toes. I recommend keeping it clean with a warm damp washcloth and mild soap, make sure to rinse it completely and apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to keep the skin moist and avoid cracking. I would get it seen by your vet as soon as you can but, as long as she seems otherwise fine, I don't feel this is an emergency.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Snowman. He may have sustained a fracture to that toe. It would be worth having him evaluated by his veterinarian to have an x-ray of that paw. He would also benefit from pain medication that contains an anti-inflammatory to help further decrease the swelling. I glad he feels well enough to be active, but I recommend keeping quiet. Hello. This just looks like a bad scrape, but the skin actually looks pretty good. Just watch for any signs of bruising or pain ( he may limp or start licking the area ), but if he seems fine & unbothered by this, then the hair should grow back just fine. Poor Kyro! From the pictures, the area still looks a little swollen and you need to keep him from licking it. That will make it worse. Put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking it. You can make one at home (I will put a link below on how to do this), or you can buy one at a pet store. Otherwise, it doesn't look red so I would not clean it unless the vet instructed you to clean it daily.
