Why is my puppy's jaw trembling when sniffing? Is it a seizure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 21 days old | 8 lbs

My puppy Mega has been acting very strange these last 5 days. Ive noticed 3x these lower jaw tremors never seen them before til 3 days ago, it's looks like he's sniffing the ground, but he'll glance up with his lower jaw roughly trembling. It only happens when he's sniffing around. He doesn't drool and nothing else in his face trembles. He also seems to be sleeping more. His eating habits are normal. The trembling is whats scaring me. He looks so helpless. He also received a 5 in 1 shot today.

Some dogs will have focal seizures known as 'chewing gum' seizures where the mouth will tremble or they will make chewing motions. Usually dogs will act a little disoriented after a seizure like this, but some dogs don't. If you think he may be having seizures you should see a veterinarian right away. It might be helpful to video an episode to show your vet. Of course it's possible that this is just a behavioral tic too, but it's better to be safe and have a veterinarian examine Mega to make sure.
