My dog is wiggly for grooming. What OTC calming aid can I use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 14 lbs

Is there a sedative I can get (not from the vet - he is too expensive) in pill form to settle my 14-pound Shih-Tzu down before she heads to the groomer? She is so wiggly that they have a heck of a time clipping her. I am hoping there is something easily found at a pet store or feed store like IFA. Any suggestions?

There is nothing OTC that you can give safely. It is never recommended to medicate your pet without the advice of your veterinarian. You can try a homeopathic product such as Rescue Remedy for Pets. It may help take the edge off for the grooming.
