My puppy is in pain after vaccine. Do I need an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 17 days old | 10.1 lbs

My 15 week old puppy just got the Parvo/Distemper shot is now yelping in pain anytime she moves her legs upwards or is touched on either side. What should I do? Should I take her to the emergency vet?

Vaccines can cause local inflammation where the vaccine was given that can be painful and cause some swelling at the site. If Molly just seems painful but you do not see any facial swelling or hives I think you could wait until the morning to see a veterinarian. If she seems very painful or has facial swelling or hives you should take her to the emergency veterinarian.
