Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pharaoh Hound | Male | neutered | 12 years and 3 months old | 85 lbs

Hello! i have a 12 yr old Pharaoh Hound with a calcium of 12.5. Sent bloodwork to U of MI and Malignancy profile showed no Cancer. We believe it's Parathyroid possibly. Will retest in 3-4 mos. what is the best dog food that has the lowest calcium in it. I would like for the next 3-4 mos to change food and see if that makes any difference. The net gives me no answers and confuses me more. I removed all dairy and he is on Holistic Selects for the last month. any suggestions? Grateful thx

Hi there. So sorry that Pharaoh is having this issue. Usually large breed puppy foods are the lowest in calcium so you may want to consider one of those diets. My best recommendation is that you cook a homemade diet and use this website to get a formula. You can get them to formulate a low calcium diet for you based on his underlying health issues. Your vet can help you with this if you need help but the website walks you through it. https://secure.balanceit.com/ I hope this helps. Best wishes!
