My 8-week puppy has bloody discharge, not eating. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 25 days old | 6 lbs

I have an 8 weeks old female Aussie who was treated with her first round of shots and a deworming last Thursday. Today I notice she is have some bloody mucous like discharge (I can't tell whether or not vaginal but seems to me like it) She hasn't eaten her breakfast at all and her stomach feels bumpy and is making a lot of noise. I'm just wondering if I need to take her in to the vet as money is right right now...?

Poor Noika! Since she is so young and not eating I would take her in to your vet. My concern would be that she might quickly get dehydrated. Bloody discharge could be a signal infection or if it is coming from her anus then it could be a serious viral infection, intestinal parasites, or bacteria infection. I'm sorry - I wish there were some good home remedies for her. Since we don't know the cause and she is so little, I would prefer to be extra cautious than wait and see.
