My senior cat has watery eyes and is unsteady. Are symptoms linked?

We got Daphne our 17 year old cat on Xmas eve just gone from our local shelter. She has no ears after they were removed from skin cancer and a heart murmur. She's very small. The past few days I've noticed her eye becoming slightly watery and a bit of a hard build up of underneath. I've been cleaning it out with water but have noticed she's unsteady on her feet tonight. She was at the vets 2-3 weeks ago and they said she has years in her. I wondered if they might be linked or maybe a uti?

I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Daphne. Eye discharge can be seen with upper respiratory infections. Other symptoms of upper respiratory infections include coughing, sneezing and nasal discharge. I would not expect to see incoordination or weakness with an upper respiratory infection. The unsteadiness that you describe makes me more concerned about worsening of her heart problem or potentially a neurologic issue. I would recommend that you have Daphne seen by your veterinarian to ensure there is nothing more serious going on. An upper respiratory infection will most likely resolve on its own as long as Daphne is eating and drinking normally.
