My dog has a scab in her armpit. Is it a cut or something else?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 70 lbs

I noticed this scab in my dog's armpit two days ago, the first day I saw it, it was bloody, so I cleaned it up with just some warm water on a paper towel. This is what it looks like today. Is this just a cut that is scabbing over? Or is this caused by something else? She doesn't wear harnesses, and she hasn't played rough with any other dogs at all. This kind of just appeared. We switched her to new food a couple months ago.

That looks like a healing wound based on the picture alone. However, without actually touching and seeing this sort of thing in person it is difficult to say this with certainty. If you feel like the area is bothering Daedra or that it is starting to spread, then the issue is likely something entirely different. Monitor it for continued healing or worsening, and go to a vet if the latter occurs.
