My pitbull's dark head lump is weeping and bleeding. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 66 lbs

Hey there. This is my 1.5 year old pitbull. She had a dark lump slowly start to appear, almost purple in colour and was hard and scab-like on the head of the wound. We have just realised it has been quite revved up and looks as though it is weeping/bleeding. It may be a bite but im unsure. Thanks

Hello, that little red growth does look a little suspicious. If Heidi was a little younger I would have been suspicious of a common benign mass knows as a hemangioma which typically resolves on its own. However, with Heidi being a little older, you should air on the safe side and have that checked out by your veterinarian to ensure it is nothing you need to be aggressive about. It can still be a hemangioma but the best way to ensure it is benign is to test the cells that make up the little lump itself. Hope this helps
