My dog throws up after eating but seems better. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 56 lbs

My dog is vomiting and regurgitating. Yesterday he was very lethargic but today perked up. Does not seem to be in pain. But still sleepy today. His appetite is back but throws up within a few hours after eating.

I am sorry to hear that Wyatt is so ill. He needs to have some tests ran by your vet to determine his underlying illness right away so that we know what he needs to get well again. He may have a stomach ulcer, really upset stomach from something he ate, a foreign body obstruction, infection or any number of organ malfunctions. I would recommend fasting him for now to prevent any more vomiting episodes and offering him only small amounts of Pedialyte non flavored to keep him as hydrated as possible. You can offer him a liquid diet (Ensure or pet formulated one from your local pet store) to see if he will keep that down until you can get him in to your vet on tomorrow. Hopefully they can diagnose the underlying problem and get him proper treatment right away. I hope Wyatt is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Best wishes and take care.
