Why does my senior dog have lumps like hives but isn't itchy?

My 10yr old dog has lumps all over his sides , looks just like hives but he does not scratch them, will it be hives ?

Yes, it sounds like hives but it is hard to say without seeing it. Can you re-post with a photo? You could use an anti-itch spray as it usually has something in it to reduce inflammation and soothe the skin. Without seeing the lesions it difficult for me to give too much advice. Please repost with a photo if you can. Of course, a vet visit is always recommended. Having someone look at the lesions in real life is always better than a photo. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

    Without seeing/feeling these bumps it is very hard for me to say what they might be. Is there any way you could post again with some photos? They could be hives or they could be scabs or warts. I don't know. Any lumps/bumps should be examined by your vet.

These look like they could be hives (also known as urticaria). Hives most commonly form secondary to an allergic reaction. They are typically itchy although some dogs don't seem to be as affected as others. An allergic reaction is often treated with Benadryl and sometimes a corticosteroid and it would be best to see your veterinarian for a diagnosis. Sometimes an allergic reaction can progress and cause facial swelling - if you see this you should see an emergency veterinarian right away since the swelling could affect the nose and throat.

Dog went outside and came running back in with raised bumps all over
It appears that your dog could have hives if this happened quite suddenly. This is often an allergic reaction to something, such as an insect bite. Most often we need to treat these with a combination of Diphenhydramine (benadryl) and steroids. We often give an injectable form initially and then send an owner home with an oral version as well. If your dog has any swelling of his face or trouble breathing he should go to the vet immediately for emergency treatment. If it is only these lesions that are present I would call your vet to make an appointment as ask if they feel it is ok to give him oral benadryl at home (they know your pet's history and can advise better than we whether it is appropriate for him).

10 year old dachshund. Small bumps and skin irratition on one side of stomach. Looking some hair. Does not seem to be painful or to the touch. Not acting out of character. Not scratching that area either. Any advice is helpful. Thank you.
This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). My dog has come up with lumps over the last 24hrs any ideas what this could be?
Thatr looks like hives, so he may have come into contact with something he is sensistive to. I suggest giving him a lukewarm bath with a mild pet shampoo and if they do not improve significantly by tomorrow, get him in to your vet for an exam. Of course, if he gets worse, has trouble bresthing, becomes lethargic, develops vomiting or diarrhea or any other adverse symptom get him to your vet right away.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! These could be benign or malignant growths. While they can be hives, it is a bit unusual that they are so focal as hives tend to be more generalized and diffuse. There are certain growths that can come and go like Marley's. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. My dog is a older dog and has those white bumps . She has one that seems to itch and she itches it so much it bleeds . Do I need to see my vet?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for envir

Hi and thank you for your post. There can be lost of causes for the crusty bumps and itchiness. If the veterinarians did not do a skin scraping, then this is what I would recommend be done. A skin scrape and impression smear of the area can diagnosis a bacterial infection, mite infection, or yeast infection. I would also recommend a fungal culture to rule out a fungal infection. I would also want to rule out a flea allergy if Betty is not on any flea preventative. Ruling everything else out above, it may be a food allergy or another environmental allergy such as pollen or grass, etc. An allergy test can help then determine what she is allergic to and therefore what she needs to avoid. There are certain medications out there to help with allergies in dogs. Antihistamines can help sometimes but there is also Atopica, Apoquel, and Cytopoint that work very well in controlling allergy symptoms in dogs. I hope this helps! Best of luck to you and Betty!

What are these? Hives or something else?
No, I don’t think these lesions are hives. They should be looked at by your vet, but it looks like a possible skin infection. I think have a check up once your vet is open, some of the skin lesions look older and more dry while others look really inflamed. It would be interesting to know wether there is some degree of itchiness and how long have they been these lesions been there for, and when did they appear for the first time.

My 10 month old puppy just started getting these red bumps that looks like hives all over her back she's not itchy but more and more keep appearing
She could have a skin infection or an allergic reaction. Since they keep appearing, she should be examined by a vet for treatment. She may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, or corticosteroid to help treat.
