Yes, there are veterinarians that will treat small mammals, or "pocket pets". Honey should be examined and treated if it is wet tail and this can be a life threatening condition in such a small pet. She will likely need antibiotics and medication to treat diarrhea. Keep her cage clean. Replace bedding daily. Make sure she continues to eat and drink normally. Discontinue feeding treats, fruit and vegetables until she recovers.

Wet tail in hamsters is caused by a bacteria that causes diarrhea. Typically hamsters affected need to be treated with a course of antibiotics to help them get well. If the hamster becomes dehydrated or stops eating she may need some fluid therapy and/or supplemental feedings. I would recommend calling your local vet to see if they are comfortable treating hamsters. If not, they can likely give you information to a vet that is.l comfortable seeing rodents. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Hammy. If tail region is dry, unlikely to be wet tail. Urine scald, skin infections or others are possible. A veterinary visit is needed to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. You might have to convince your local vet to help out. Clean the environment in an attempt to keep dry and clean. Replace substrate with clean towels to lessen contamination of wound. Good luck.

Wet tail is a very serious disease in hamsters. If you think that your hamster has wet tail, he/she needs to be seen by a vet immediately. Even with treatment, many hamsters will die from this disease. The chance of survival increases is treatment is started right away.

Your hamster is likely suffering from Wet Tail . Wet tail, or Proliferative Ileitis, is an extremely serious gastrointestinal disease and Hamsters can die from it very quickly. It is caused by a bacterium called Lawsonia intracellularis and hamsters get infected when contaminated feces get on their food and they then ingest the fecally contaminated food. If the hamster is stressed it exacerbates the condition. In this case she came to a new home, which is always stress. Since this is an emergency you will need to have your hamster seen by a vet immediately. Treatment usually consists of antibiotics, anti-diarrheal medications and subcutaneous and oral fluids to combat dehydration. In addition to that you need to thoroughly sanitize her cage to prevent re-infection and make sure your hamster is kept clean and warm. If you have just bought this hamster you need to contact the shop and see if you can give her back as they sold you a sick animal.
