It can be normal for vaginal discharge after a pyometra surgery. The uterus is removed above the cervix. If blood and infection is present in the vaginal cavity it will still be present and leak out the vulva . If it is a small amount and Lucy is recovering normal I would not be concerned. If she is not eating, being overly painful or large amount of discharge I would recommend having her re checked by your vet.

I would be concerned there is something going on with the urinary tract (infection, bladder stone, etc) or there is still a uterine stump that remains from the surgery that is becoming infected (this can happen if there uterus is not completely removed and there is a stump that remains post-surgery). These can both have similar symptoms to what you are describing. I would have a vet take a look for any urinary issues (X-ray, bloodwork, urinalysis) and rule out a stump pyometra that may require additional medication or surgery to treat.

If she was recently spayed and is having discharge I would bring her to a veterinarian ASAP. It's possible there are surgical complications, infection of internal sutures, a pyometra from any remaining tissue (depending on if only ovaries or OVH were performed) or another issue underlying that should be checked out. Other issues can include urinary tract infections which may have similar looking discharge in addition to cloud/bloody urine, frequent trips to the litterbox, and excessive vocalization. Since this can be a serious complication and illness, it would be best to seek veterinary care as soon as possible.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Discharge from the vulva can be either from the urinary tract or reproductive tract. If you are unsure if she is spayed, I would have her seen by her regular veterinarian soon, as a pyometra can be life threatening. Vaginal discharge can also be due to a urinary tract infection, a vaginitis, a skin infection or another underlying issue. I would recommend she be evaluated by her regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for her discharge, and any treatment that she may need. Good luck!
