My bunny started having lots of eye boogers and the next day I noticed she had a red bump on the corner of her eye. I did some research about it and it seems like it is a cherry eye. Her eye is very dry with no bright and then the next day her pupil was a little cloudy and the cherry was a little bigger. Is it painful for her? Is it contagious? I also found that you can try to put the cherry back in but I couldn't because of how dry it is. Does she need surgery or are they're other options?

Hi there. For a good answer to this you really need a sedated eye exam at your veterinarian's office. (If you can upload a few photos it helps us get a better idea too). They will make sure the cornea (the surface part of the eye) is intact and that there are no ulcerations, etc. to repair a prolapsed eyelid or "cherry eye" you will need surgery to either remove the membrane or to tack it back into place-I'm not sure which would be a better option without seeing your pet in particular. Likely you will be given antibiotics as well to keep the eye free of infections. I hope this helps!

This could be a clogged tear duct. You could try to flush the eye with artificial tears. I would also use a warm compress on the inner corner of her eye and then gently massage the duct there twice a day. This will sometimes open it up, but sometimes they need the tear duct flushed which usually requires mild sedation. If it isn’t improving or if the foshwrge tirns yellow or green, i would have your vet take a look at it. I hope this helps.

It would be much easier to give an opinion if there were some photos attached to your question. Without actually seeing the eye makes it hard to say much. If it is a cherry eye it needs to be repaired surgically. The cloudiness you are describing means that there is either trauma to the cornea from the cherry eye rubbing on it or there is edema (swelling) behind the cornea from pain and inflammation. If the tear gland (cherry eye) is popped out that will cause a dry eye so it fits with what you are describing. A cloudy eye is not a good sign. If you want to help her you will need to take her to your vet for an exam. That way she can get the proper diagnosis and treatment. I hope this helps. Best wishes!
