Why is my dog scratching his ear until it bleeds, but the vet found nothing?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 5 months old | 9 lbs

hi, my 3 year old dog is constantly scratching his ear , sometimes until it bleeds. There is no sign of anything in his ear but he won't let anyone touch behind it (behind the flap of his ear and down slightly) if anyone brushes their hand against it he barks or yelps. He had a vet check up 3 weeks ago and they didn't detect anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks so much

Poor Digby! I would recommend a recheck by your vet and possibly a full ear and dental exam under sedation to determine the underlying cause of his pain and discomfort. Ear polyps, middle ear disease and dental pain could all contribute to such symptoms as could inflammation from allergic skin disease
