My dog has joint pain and won't jump. How can I help his mobility?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 25 lbs

Recently D has started refusing to jump into bed. He was tripping when he'd try to jump up and sometimes falling. I've started picking him up and putting him in bed. I was told when he was a puppy he would knee problems as he got older because his knees are rounded, and he broke his back leg a couple years ago. He's 7, now and very healthy. I think his knees are starting to go though. How can I help him with any pain he may be in?

Hi there. Poor Diesel! If he is having joint pain in his knees-your veterinarian can prescribe you some medications for pain that can make him much more comfortable. There are also other things available which may be of some aid to you-hills Science Diet makes j/d for better joint health (a prescription food) which many of my clients love. Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements like dasuquin can also help with joint disease. I hope this helps!
