Why does my dog have sudden swollen bumps on his eye, ear, and body?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 12 days old | 85 lbs

Our 8 month old Great Dane has a swollen big bump under his eye and three bumps under his thigh. The size of a little smaller than a dime. His ears get hot and get little bumps all over them. I've been putting cortisone on his ear and it seems to be helping. Any idea what these bumps could be? They seem to get worse at night. Especially the one on his eye. It seems like these bumps just appear instantly. They are not draining or anything - just red swollen bumps. He doesn't itch them either

Poor Levi.....his eyelid is really swollen! Since the bumps just appear they could be hives from some type of allergic reaction. Since his eyelid so so swollen and red, it would be a good idea to have him examined by a vet for treatment. An anti-histamine and corticosteroid may be needed to help. Hope he gets better soon!

If Levi has been scratching and rubbing at his eye it is possible that he has scratched the cornea (the clear part of the eye). You would need to get treatment from a veterinarian to fix this problem. In the meanwhile you can examine the eye closely to see if there is anything stuck in there. If not, or if the redness does not resolve in the next day or two, you should take him to the veterinarian for treatment. Good luck! I hope Levi is feeling better soon.
