It could be a bacterial infection, allergic dermatitis, fungal infection, etc. You could clean it with an antiseptic wound cleaner and then put some neosporin on it and see if it helps. If not, he should be examined by a vet for treatment.

    This area appears to have been scratched very severely by your cat. Usually when a cat does something like this is because they are very itchy. Based on the location of the sore I would be suspicious of an ear infection. I would recommend taking your cat into the vet to have his ears and skin checked out, and ear medication given if your vet feels it is appropriate. In the meantime, you can apply antibiotic ointment to the area but you cat will probably continue to scratch the area until the underlying issue is resolved.

This may be a bacterial or yeast infection on the ear margins and spreading. You can keep it clean with warm soap and water, just be careful to not get it in her ear, and rub a small, thin amount of Neosporin to the area. If it does not improve then she needs to be seen by your vet on Monday

Without seeing Forrest in person, I can't say for certain what these spots are, I can only speculate. When cats wake up from anesthesia, they are very disoriented, and can sometimes fall in the cage during recovery. During her recovery, it is possible that Forrest injured herself, causing these bald spots. From your description of them being red, it is possible they are infected and it is a good idea that she is seen by a vet. I would not put any neosporin or vaseline on them. Although quite safe on superficial wounds, cats groom and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed.

It can be hard to get a cat to hold still to take a picture! Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed. I would clean the sore with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the sore clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.

My kitten got this on her ear. What is this and what should I do? Read from the internet and it says that it is dermatitis. However I wanted to have an expert advice, help anyone? Thank you!
This could be an area of a bacterial infection, fungal infection or I have even seen trauma such as from outdoor cat bite wounds cause this. This wound needs to be kept clean and dry and if it is getting worse it will require medication from your veterinarian to heal. Do not allow your kitten to paw or rub at the site as well as keep her indoors and monitor this for any change in size, redness, Increase in discharge as well as pain. If you notice any of those signs your cat needs to be checked out by your veterinarian.

my cat has a small lesion on his head that has become bloody. We have the Elizabethan collar on him to keep him from scratching. What does that look like it could be? Can I treat with Neosporin and how often?
Poor M! I'm glad to hear that you're already using the e-collar because this will prevent M from scratching and worsening the issue. This lesion could be a result of a skin infection, ringworm, mange, flea allergy, among others. While you can use Neosporin, I do not typically find it to be overly effective for most wounds on pets. Instead, you can try a wound spray, such as Vetericyn (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=25902). Also be sure that M is receiving a high quality flea preventative, such as Advantage, Bravecto, or Revolution regularly. If this lesion persists or worsens, he will need to go to his vet for further evaluation. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

Hi. Muming is suffering in an itch on his ears. It became wounded, and bleeding. I put betadine but he kept on cratching. Pls help. No near vet in our place
This could be due to a specific mite called Scabies as well as UV exposure and autoimmune disease. Sometimes applying an ointment like neosporin helps until a pet can see a veterinarian. You should prevent hil from scratching his ears if possible, keep him indoors and his ears clean with warm water and a very mild soap. Do not give any oral medications as they can be very toxic to cats.

Is it safe to put neosporin on my cat?
If you are going to use it, make sure it is in a spot Frida cannot lick. If it is, you may need to use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking/ingestion. If it is a minor wound/abrasion, keep the area clean and dry. Major or deep wounds or areas that look infected should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, it's difficult to use topical medications in cats because they normally groom them off and ingest them. You could put an e-collar (plastic cone) on your cat to prevent him from being able to reach the spot, and use a pet-safe topical hydrocortisone spray if you want to try this - just make sure any product you use is labeled for cats, since they are very sensitive to the chemicals in many topical meds designed for dogs and other animals. Most of the time, prescription medication such as a steroid and/or an antibiotic is required to effectively treat skin problems like this, so I would really recommend taking your cat to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to. Your vet can do some simple skin tests to help determine what is causing the problem (allergies, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection, etc.) and get him started on appropriate medication to treat it.

Anything you can recommend to put on this bald spot? It is itchy as he has been scratching it (I think that is how he lost the fur there). I was cleansing his ears with a natural ear cleanser for cats. He had ear mites pretty bad when I picked him up
A prescription steroid/antibiotic ointment such as entederm/dermavet along with an Elizabethan collar/cone for 7 days would be the most effective. As the lesion is likely from him trying to scratch his ears and missing, a topical over the counter hydrocortisone ointment/cream twice daily alternating with neosporin twice daily for 7 days along with the e-collar may help as well. If there is still ear mite debris in his ears, prescription tresaderm from your vet may be indicated as well. Good luck!
