Why is my dog biting his hindquarters and whimpering after neuter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | unneutered | 12 years old | 25 lbs

Ab 1 1/2 mo ago, I had jack neutered because he seemed to have a prob relieving himself fully. And one teste was abit larger then other. I believed if he had prostate prob this may help. Previously he was a great companion almost to the point of speaking and had been since I brought him home 12 yrs ago. Now he whimpers, digs at the rug and bedding and constantly biting at him hind quarters. But he has no fleas or ticks. Altho I knew this may cause change I had no idea it would b to this extent.

Hi there. Jack may be suffering from allergies. Allergies can be due to food and environmental allergens, so he does not have to be infested with fleas to be itchy. He could also be having problems with his anal glands or biting at himself because of pain. I recommend taking him to the veterinarian so he can get a full check up. The vet will probably be able to give you some medications or recommendations to help Jack feel better. Hope this helps!
