My cat has a saggy belly. Is it normal or a sign of being overweight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old

My cat got her first haircut and I realized that her tummy is dangling down a little. I never realized as it was all hairy. She eats too well and I was wondering if it's a sign of overweight that her tummy is bulged downwards when you look at her sideways :)

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The extra skin that hangs from the bellies of cats is VERY common! I swear it happens to most cats after they are spayed or neutered. Even lean cats have a little bit. But yes it can be a sign of being overweight. Based on your photo, maybe Luka is a little overweight. But even having him lose weight won't change the skin that hangs! Just poke it for fun!
