Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Van | Female | unspayed
I was feeding a feral kitten for some time. A few days ago, I saw what looked like a gash next to its mouth, which darkened and didn't look like it was getting better days later, in addition to having pink patches with no fur on its front leg. I took it to a government veat who said it had Calicivirus which needed treatment for a period of time. The kitten is not tame and was difficult to control. The vet euthanized it as it would be difficult to treat and it would worsen. Was he right?

Yes, it is an unfortunate situation but without treatment Calicivirus can be fatal. With treatment there is a good chance of recovery. Since the kitten was feral, treatment is very difficult and if not treated it can a reservoir of the disease and continue to spread it to other cats. I think euthanasia was the best option. Sorry you had to go through that. Thank you for caring about the kitten. Best wishes to you.
