Can my dog be spayed if she has a heart and breathing condition?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

Aubree was supposed to get spay yesterday but the blood work came back bad i guess she has a problem in her heart they did some check ups i guess n her heart is a little too small n she also has a breathing problem she is only four so the vet said she wouldnt make it if he put her under :( i was really scared now she cant ever get spay he said she was gonna be fine but i really want her to last me many many more years if not having her spay going to be a major issue :'( im so scared to lose her

So sorry to hear that Aubree is having this issue. I would recommend you get a second opinion with a veterinary cardiologist. There are many heart issues where the dog can have the spay surgery safely. Your vet may not be comfortable performing the surgery but a specialist may. You need to know exactly what the heart issue is and how serious it is. Before you get too worried I would do that. I hope that helps. Best wishes!

    Hi. If they are suspecting a heart condition, the best thing to do to get more information before anesthesia, is to get a cardiologist to do an echocardiogram with a full heart work up. This will be able to answer if anesthesia will most likely be safe or not. Lab work is not usually indicative of heart disease, so I'm not sure what they saw there.
