Why is my dog's skin turning gray again after car accident trauma?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 11 months old | 10 lbs

Hi my dog recently got hit by a car and had bruises for a while but nothing more, while he had bruises his skin got grayish almost black but it all came back to it's normal pinkish color until recently where it starts to be gray again but this time it's everywhere even under his fur... Is it result of the trauma or is it something else? His bruises all healed up pretty quickly and everything was fine. Thank you, Mitch.

Hi, sorry o hear Olaf got hit. Without pictures, it is hard to say what is wrong with his skin. When skin trauma happens like road rash, the skin can die off and may turn grey. Or because he's a young dog it may be unrelated to the accident and just natural skin pigment turning colors. Or it could be a skin disorder. I would take him to a vet to check his skin, or repost this question with pictures. Good luck!
