Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 years old
Hi, I recently switched my cats food. He was eating wet food before and I gave him a new brand/flavour of wet food. He threw up today twice, the first time it was a hairball but right after eating later on in the day he threw up again. Is this because of switching food too fast or is it the food itself? Also should I go back to the previous brand/type of food?

Yes, the vomiting can be from switching the food. I always say "don't mess with success" so if the previous diet was working I would go back to that. Whatever is in the new food may not agree with him. If you go back to the other food and he continues to vomit then he definitely needs to be seen by your vet. I hope this helps. Best wishes to you and Zander!

There are many good cat food brands. Some of my favorites are Science Diet, Purina Proplan, and Royal Canin. They all should have an adult maintenance diet for an indoor cat. These three brands of cat food do extensive research on their diets and that is why I recommend them. However, there are many other great pet food brands out there in addition to these. The most important part about changing a cat's diet, is to do so gradually over at least about one week. If you abruptly change them from one food to another, you will likely cause them to get an upset stomach. Symptoms of this can be vomiting and diarrhea. That being said, there are numerous other causes of vomiting in cats including G.I. obstruction, parasites and secondary to kidney disease to name a few. These other causes will require treatment from a veterinarian. So if you were worried about Sammy, it is always a good idea to have her evaluated by a veterinarian to make sure that there is not more going on. Best of luck with Sammy
