Why can't my 12-week-old lab puppy suddenly walk on his back legs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 12 lbs

My 12 week old lab suddenly lost the ability to stand/walk with his back legs. No injury, no bite, no wound to be seen. He is eating, drinking, and eliminating, and can eat his tail. He just can't walk. Nothing broken according to the X-ray. Help!

Poor Moose! Weakness can be due to bone, muscle or nerve injuries and in puppies a number of parasites such as neospora can also be involved. Blood tests, physical therapy, acupuncture and chiropractic care cold all be considered as long as there is still some sensation and withdrawal reflexes in the limbs. A full neurological assessment should be performed to help localise the origin of the problem
