Why is my dog's head jerking or twitching when playing fetch?

The last few days I noticed when playing fetch with my dog, as she runs towards me with her toy, I've noticed her head jerking/twitching to either the right or left side. We can play like this for 20+ minutes and may see this at least 3x. Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

Without seeing her perform this behavior myself it is very difficult to say what is going on. It sounds like it could be a problem with her mouth like maybe one side hurts and when she has the toy in her mouth that aggravates it. It could be a problem with one of the TMJ joints. A vet exam would be warranted I think. I would also suggest you videotape this behavior so your vet can see what you are talking about. I doubt it is a serious issue however, if you get an exam on Wifi then you will have peace of mind. I hope this helps. Best wishes!
