My dog's yearly shots are delayed. Will he get sick or be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cardigan Welsh Corgi | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 4 months old

I have to take my pet to get his yearly shots. Parvo, rabies, Bordetella, dist/hep/pi, and a heartworm test. His appointment was on 6/29. An emergency came up and I am barely take him on 7/24. I am concerned with him. Should I be concerned? will he be okay? Will he get sick? I have been away he has lost his appetite a little. Idk if it’s because I haven’t been around him. Generally I just want to make sure he be fine. I am very concerned and feel bad. Thanks to who ever answers!

Hi, as an adult dog this should not be the first vaccines he has gotten. If these are his second boosters, they need to be done at a certain time to be effective. if he has had vaccines in the past and these are his yearly vaccines, they should be effective until you are able to take him on the 24th. The vet may suggest a booster in 3 weeks if they are late, but that should not effect him. He will not get sick. it is very common for dogs to not have a full appetite when their owners are gone, but I would have him checked during his vaccine appointment. Good luck!
