How to get my puppy to sleep later? Will she outgrow early mornings?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature American Shepherd | Female | spayed | 2 months and 3 days old | 7 lbs

My puppy keeps waking up at 7 am every morning. She wakes up and I let her out of the crate, she poops and pees but then would not go back to sleep, she just wants to play after that. If i put her back in the crate she would start crying and barking. Do you think she will keep waking up that early or she will be able to sleep longer when she grows up?

7 am is actually really good for a puppy! I have clients tell me their dogs won't sleep past 3-4 am! As she gets older she likely won't want to play as much so she may sleep a little longer, but no guarantee.

Actually you are very lucky she is waking up at 7 am, it's not early at all, most puppies and dogs will wake you up earlier than that. later in life she will calm down though and will not be constantly asking to play in the morning, so it might get a little better, you will need to be patient and see.
