My dog woke up with a swollen snout. What's causing it and what to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 7 months and 2 days old | 55 lbs

I have a lab- pit mix that is 7months. She woke up with a slightly swollen snout this morning. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with detergents or new toys. She has ticks, and she was treated last week for her second treatment for round worms in the last 4 months.

A swollen muzzle is most commonly due to an allergic reaction, often to an insect bite or bee sting. It could also be from an infection near her muzzle. If she's otherwise acting completely normal you can monitor her; an allergic reaction should get gradually better and usually resolves in 24 hours or sooner. An infection would not improve without antibiotics, so if the swelling continues or if any other symptoms appear she should be seen by a vet. Hope this helps!
