My cat has diarrhea, lost weight, won't eat after surgery. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 7.27 lbs

My cat has undergone surgery (uretal obstruction and he licked his penis so much that the surgeon had to remove it) and ever since he has had diarrhea. It got worse in the past weeks to the point he lost so much weight he is now fur and bones. He was diagnosed last week with giardia and I've been medicating him with furazolidone. But no improvements could be seen in either his diarrhea nor his appetite (which is now non existent!). I'm afraid he's gonna starve to death. How can I treat him?

Lord fluffy needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. They will likely run blood work, place him on fluids, antinausea medications, and an appetite stimulant. Cats can get fatty liver syndrome if they do not eat. This can make them very sick and they can potentially pass away from it if not treated appropriately.
