What does a heartworm blood test reveal about my dog's health?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

Aubree had blood work done about three months ago it qas for heartworm and it came back negative, now my question is if she had any other health issues would it still show on that blood work she had done?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If your Vet was only testing for heartworm then that was likely the only thing ran. General blood work usually is a CBC and a chemistry. I think it is best to call your Vet in the am and ask if any other blood work was sent out with the heartworm test. You could also look at your invoice.

    That's great Aubree was heartworm negative! Typically blood work includes a chemistry panel which checks liver enzymes, kidney values, and blood proteins. A complete blood count looks at her red and white blood cells to determine if there's any anemia or infection present. Overall it gives us a good idea about their general health but it doesn't always catch everything.
