Could grooming trauma or separation anxiety make my dog aggressive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 16 days old

Just asked a question but maybe didn't ask correctly. 3 weeks ago our 9 month old female yorkie came home after spending the day at the trimmer. She immediately attacked our 9 yr old Chihuahua multiple times and had to be separated for the rest of the day. We had no problems up until last night and throughout today where she is viciously attacking him. Could this have something to do with trauma from trimmer or being separated for a while. This last incident Nala was away a couple days with fam

Oh gotcha! Then yes, stress and being fearful could easily be a reason she might feel aggressive! I always recommend going with your dog to the groomer, especially if you don't know them well, to make sure the event is not extremely stressful or painful for your dog. Grooming is often a terrifying experience for little dogs, and you may need to supervise what is going on--if you aren't comfortable that it is a positive experience, go somewhere else. Also, if your groomer refuses to let you watch, this is perhaps a sign.
