Why does my dog's poop have a film after eating a small onion piece?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 2 months and 27 days old | 54.3 lbs

Update on Nova, so she ate small piece of onion last night and vet said it should be fine. Today her fecal consistency was different. It was encased in film (I don't have a picture) otherwise she is energetic and fine. I am kind of worried, I can't get vet appointment till Wednesday.

The film, or mucus, is normal in small amounts. Excess mucus can be seen in cases of stress or gastrointestinal upset. Monitor for resolution or worsening of symptoms. A 12 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts may help stool return to normal. If not, have Nova rechecked by your veterinarian.
