How to introduce a new puppy when my adult dog won't accept it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 2 months old | 116 lbs

We have a nine year old very active shepherd. We just brought into the home a shepherd puppy and have tried to introduce them a little each day. The adult will not accept the puppy no matter what we try...advice please.

It can be very stressful for the existing dog when a puppy is introduced. I am not sure what you have tried already but if it is not working then you could try an Adaptil collar, Solliquin chew, or talk to your vet about trying an anti-anxiety medication, like Trazodone to see if that helps relieve any anxiety your adult dog may have. Otherwise, you may need to get a professional trainer to come and work with your dogs.
