My puppy vomited yellow bile after too many treats. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 5 days old | 11 lbs

My 4 month old puppy (all vaccines up to date) vomited yellowish bile this morning in two small amounts. He was drinking water last night but has had none this morning. He was at puppy class last night and I think may have had too many treats (they were giving him hot dog). He's only been up for an hour but hasn't been outside to pee or poo. What would you recommend doing?

Poor Gulliver! He could have an upset stomach from too many treats. If he is otherwise acting fine, you could withhold food for the day and then try a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see how he does with that. If the vomiting continues or he becomes lethargic then he needs to be seen by your vet for treatment. Hope he feels better soon!

Poor Gulliver! It's certainly possible that he over-indulged. I would speak with your puppy class trainer and see if you can bring something else next time, that is a little less likely to upset his stomach. I would monitor Gulliver carefully this morning. Offer a small amount of his regular food and see how he does. If he continues to vomit or is not interested in his food like he usually is then I would recommend having him checked out by your vet.
