My dog has a severe skin infection. Why aren't antibiotics working?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered

My pet has severe skin infection all over the lower part of body, especially on his legs and stomach area with blisters and blood and fluid oozing out. He also has oedema on his hind legs and lower abdomen including penis. All this is accompanied by foul smell. This is the reoccurring for the second time and the antibiotics given previously has no effect and the symptoms have manifested. We are giving the Antibiotics for the past 8 days but there has been no improvement.

A skin biopsy and culture should be recommended at this time. You should also check blood work to rule out internal issues such as liver issues or thyroid problems. Recheck with your veterinarian soon for additional diagnostics.
